The Alberta Primary Care Initiative
The Alberta Primary Care Initiative is a trilateral agreement between the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), the Regional Health Authorities (RHA) and Alberta Health & Wellness (AHW).The goals of the Alberta Primary Care Initiative are:
- To increase the proportion of Albertans with ready access to primary care.
- To provide coordinated 24-hour, 7-day-per-week management of access to appropriate primary care services.
- To increase emphasis on health promotion, disease and injury prevention, care of medically complex patients and care of patients with chronic diseases.
- To improve coordination and integration with other health care services including secondary, tertiary and long-term care, through specialty care linkages to primary care.
- To facilitate greater use of multi-disciplinary teams to provide comprehensive primary care.
